FAQ

Q: What is the best way to be informed when new entries appear on the blog?

A: Start using an RSS reader and click on the ‘Feed’ tab with the RSS icon to add this site to your reader. I would highly recommend the free (or at least lost cost) programs from NewsGator. I use NetNewsWire on the Mac and iPhone and I assume FeedDemon for Windows would have similar capabilities. All of NewsGator’s programs sync up with Google Reader and thus give you not only synchronization amongst the platforms you might use but also web access to your subscriptions. If you go this route I am sure this blog will not be your primary place to visit as you would also be able to add almost every site you frequent on the internet as you might be surprised how many RSS feeds are out there. Some examples would be CNN, digg, Woot!, and so on.

When you click on the ‘Feed’ tab you will be taken to the FeedBurner site. If you have your RSS reader setup as noted above simply click on the ‘View Feed XML’ in the Subscribe Now! box and you should be all set. As an alternative you can have a subscription emailed to you and bypass all of the RSS details altogether by clicking on ‘Get JR’s Blog delivered by email’ in the Subscribe Now! box.

If you leave comments on a post you will have the option to subscribe via email to any further comments added to that post. When you receive your email confirmation request for the subscription make sure you open the reply link in the same browser you used to make the post and that cookies are enabled.

Q: Okay, so you take requests… on what topics?

A: Perhaps an expert in nothing and a more than superficial knowledge in a lot of things would translate into a renaissance man. I have a deep background in manufacturing with businesses both in the United States and Europe. I am an investor both in the private business sense in addition to the public markets. On the public market side my knowledge ranges from personal investing to hedge funds and other types of private placements for both accredited and qualified investors. On the more personal side I do a lot of personal research in the health and fitness areas to constantly improve myself going forward. (and I have a long way to go!) I am a roller coaster nut, love photography and videography and challenge myself to take it wherever I go. (at the moment I am looking into underwater lighting to help me do a better job while SCUBA diving) Oh, did I mention SCUBA? How about high power rocketry? (currently certified for level 2 flights and someday would like to move up to level 3) I love to travel and especially meet people who have changed the world and try to learn as much as I can from them. (hopefully I will get around to writing an entry about flying in zero-G with Buzz Aldrin and why I think about the dinner we had with Walter Cronkite every time I remember that flight) Computers are a strong hobby so everything from running your own server, to fault tolerant backups, to writing ‘C’ code is at home with me. Family is foremost and if I can leave a place a little better than it was after I have visited it has been a good day indeed.

Q: Why don’t I see a cool avatar icon in my comment postings?

A: Simply sign up on Gravatar with the email address you use for posting and upload an image there. Best part of all it is 100% free!
